At the end of last week, the World Health Organization declared the spread of monkeypox among humans in the world as an international health emergency.
According to the agency, such a step will help attract additional attention of the international community and attract investments to fight the disease.

It is noted that to date, more than 16,000 cases of the disease have been registered in 75 countries and territories, including five fatal cases.
It is reported that the WHO conducted multifaceted assessments of the risks associated with monkeypox and concluded that at the global level and at the level of all WHO regions, except for the European region, the risks are considered moderate. But in the European region, such threats are assessed as high. In addition, there is a risk of international spread of the disease, although the threat of creating obstacles to international transport is currently considered low.
In other words, we have a disease outbreak that is rapidly spreading around the world, demonstrates new mechanisms of transmission of infection, about which not enough is known so far, and meets the criteria provided for in the International Health Regulations. For all of these reasons, I have decided to declare the outbreak of monkeypox a public health emergency of international concern
