Alexei Ivanovich has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This is when one of the walls of the heart is thickened and interferes with blood pumping. Recently, the number of patients with this defect at the Amosov Institute has increased. Among them are both civilians and military.
The first days were difficult because it was difficult for patients to get to our center, but the last month, when the situation in Kyiv has stabilized, we see an increase in patients coming to us with this disease, because the load on people increases both emotionally and physically.
Shortness of breath, dizziness, atypical heartbeat and fainting are symptoms that doctors are asked to respond to immediately. Because this disease is associated with cases where athletes died suddenly during training and schoolchildren in physical education classes.
For the last 6 years, the capital's surgeons have been operating on such patients according to a unique method. And if it weren't for the war, they would now have to share their experience with their Polish counterparts.
Oleksiy Ivanovych is already the 500th patient to have his heart cut at the Amosov Institute, and we are the leaders in Europe in this respect, because more such operations are not performed in any European medical institution.
Now the man will live longer and better – doctors say. Oleksiy Ivanovych believes that he will wait for the victory, return home and will play with his grandchildren for a long time.
