Russia has captured about 1,700 military and civilians, said the Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories Irina Vereshchuk in an interview with Reuters
According to her, 500 of them are women. The Minister expressed concern about the way they are being treated.
«They are forced to stand, not allowed to sit down. They shave their heads. They are forced to undress for examinations every day. They degrade human dignity. I know about the facts of rape, I have seen damaged backs»
– the Minister told.
Iryna Vereshchuk considers such treatment of prisoners as attempts to intimidate.
«They want us to be afraid. They want us to cry and be victims. But we are not victims. Our girls and women … are asking us to continue fighting for our victory»
– quotes the agency.
Iryna Vereshchuk said on April 9 that Ukraine had returned 26 citizens, including 12 military and 14 civilians, following a third prisoner exchange with Russia.
As a result of a previous prisoner exchange, 86 Ukrainian servicemen were released.
