It became known who in Ukraine is recommended to administer the second booster dose against COVID-19
The National Technical Group of Experts on Immunoprophylaxis has published new recommendations for administering a second booster dose of the coronavirus vaccine. They have already been approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
According to the agency, permission to receive a new vaccination was given to elderly people, as well as Ukrainians with certain chronic diseases.
For the second booster dose, it is recommended to use the mRNA vaccine. Currently in Ukraine it is Comirnaty/Pfizer. The interval should be at least 4 months after the first booster dose
The second booster dose is recommended for people:
• at the age of 60 and to people who live in care facilities for the elderly;
• with limited physical capabilities and immunosuppression;
• aged 18 and over with chronic diseases and other medical conditions that increase the risk of a severe course of COVID-19.
It also notes that studies have shown that getting a fourth dose of the vaccine improves protection against the disease for people aged 60+ and people who are immunocompromised. But for the younger generation (18-59 years old) without chronic diseases, the results are the opposite.
Therefore, healthy people up to 60 years old; pregnant women without concomitant diseases that increase the risk of a severe course of COVID-19; occupational risk groups such as healthcare workers are not currently recommended to receive a booster dose
