Starting in August 2022, antibiotics will be available in Ukraine using an electronic prescription. The innovation will start working only in those hospitals that are connected to the EHOZ. Everyone who does not yet work with the electronic health care system will continue to use paper prescriptions.
The Ministry of Health notes that these actions are necessary to prevent the spread of antibiotic resistance and to track data on the prescription and volume of antibiotic use in the country.
The Deputy Minister of Health for Digital Development, Maria Karchevych, said that an electronic prescription can be obtained from any doctor, regardless of the presence of a declaration from a family doctor, but registration in the National Health Service is a necessary condition.
During the transition period, the patient will be able to purchase the necessary prescription drugs at any pharmacy. For this, it is enough to show the pharmacist an information certificate, which the doctor will issue as confirmation of the appointment. Also, according to the prescription, the patient will independently decide on the choice of the trade name of the drug containing the prescribed active substance, focusing on his own budget
According to the Ministry of Health, the transition period will last until December 2022 inclusive. During this time, pharmacies should prepare for a full-fledged transition to dispensing prescription drugs exclusively by electronic prescription.
