Today we will talk about the algorithm of actions during the provision of first aid in the event of a concussion.
Let's start with the facts. A contusion is a general damage to the body as a result of a sharp mechanical impact (air, water or sound waves, hitting the ground or water, etc.). A characteristic sign of a concussion is fainting. In mild cases, a person faints for a few minutes, in severe cases – for a longer period. Nausea, disorientation, vision and hearing disorders, headache, amnesia and tachycardia are also symptoms of a concussion.
Doctors distinguish three degrees of contusion severity:
• The lung is characterized by tingling in the limbs, tremors, stuttering, and impaired hearing;
• Medium – partial paralysis of the limbs, the person practically does not hear anything and does not react to light;
• Severe is characterized by intermittent breathing, convulsions, bleeding from the mouth and ears, loss of consciousness.
What to do if you see a person with signs of a concussion:
1. First of all, you should call an ambulance;
2. Transport the victim to a safe place;
3. If the person is conscious, a brief survey should be conducted to determine their condition and circumstances of injury;
4. If a person has lost consciousness, his position should be fixed on his side;
5. Free the neck and chest from clothing (so that nothing presses);
6. Try to warm the victim;
7. If the person is unconscious and not breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation should be performed immediately. When breathing occurs, perform the actions indicated in points 4-6;
8. If the victim is bleeding, a tourniquet should be applied, and if there is a fracture, a splint;
9.If it is not possible to call the 103 line, you should try to take the victim to the doctor yourself.
The most important rules during a concussion are a complete ban on performing artificial respiration. Also, the victim should not be given water.
