Intensive hostilities on the territory of Ukraine will significantly affect water pollution and problems with river filling.
Numerous destruction of bridges will stop the flow and flowering of water bodies, and a large number of corpses buried in the ground will have an impact in the context of groundwater poisoning.

Ecologist Tetyana Lampika told UNN what global environmental consequences await Ukraine in the near future.
“It is important to understand that there are damaged objects. These are sewers, water supply and sewerage facilities. That is, the objects of urban development, urban infrastructure. These are the cities that were bombed.
There are cases of violation of treatment facilities. This will have a very significant impact, especially since we have summer ahead of us. And summer is an increase in temperature, which means the flowering of rivers. This will only increase this problem, because these organic wastes only contribute to the development of flowering water bodies"

– said the expert.
The ecologist emphasizes that significant destruction of bridges stops the flow. Which, in particular, will lead to the cessation of filling of reservoirs and their flowering.
“There is a suspicion of groundwater. It must be understood that there are a large number of corpses that are buried in common graves, both on our part and on that side. In cities where there are many such graves, there may be problems with groundwater”
– adds Tatiana.
She explained that groundwater poisoning is significantly affected by cadaveric poison. In particular, when creating cemeteries, always try to place them farther away, or in an area where there is a clay castle, which does not allow after the decomposition of the body to get dangerous substances into groundwater.
At the same time, Tatiana adds, the reservoirs can be cleaned themselves if there is enough rain on the territory of Ukraine during the year.
“But we must understand that then it will all float to the seas. It all washes away there. I do not understand the final environmental situation in Mariupol. Because if you look at the maps, there is a landfill on the shores of the Sea of Azov. It is light green. There are fears that as a result of hostilities, all this liquid could get into the Sea of Azov, and these environmental consequences will be catastrophic.”
– emphasized the interlocutor of the agency.
It is encouraging that city councils and military administrations are doing their utmost to reduce the risk of environmental catastrophe. Being under martial law, they are trying to repair everything that is collapsing, according to the ecologist.
“If there is constant attention to these nuances – it will be offset by the amount of water discharged by industrial enterprises. That is, it must be understood that cities are the main polluters of water resources. Everything else is enterprises.
Given the fact that they are not currently working at full capacity and not all over Ukraine, we can say that we compensate for some discharges to others, and due to this the situation will be the same as before the war.”
